Sunday morning, some went "geoing" (which is supposedly the cool word
for geocaching), to a coffee shop and to church. We met back at our
beautiful home away from home and headed to the tram on Mt. Roberts.
While there, the boys had a buffalo, reindeer and duck burger which they really liked!
There is a trail that goes along the ridge of Mt. Roberts from which
you can see thehouse we have been staying. (center leftish,
white A-frame windows with 2 wing additions)
The older adults took the tram down the mountain while the
2 younger adults chose the rugged, wet, slippery, difficult path
down the mountain trail. Both groups made it down safely,
much to the relief of Uncle Tim.
Tom and Chris visited Tracy's Legs, a famous King Crab shack...
and then returned home to a feast!
Juneau is a narrow strip of land bordered by the Gastineau Channel
on the west and mountain ridges, including Mt. Juneau and
Mt. Roberts on the east. Tom and the boys tried to calculate the
percentage of the residents (31, 500 pop.)
who were born here. Most people we met were either
from the ship or moved here from the lower 48.
We enjoyed driving the main road which runs north and
south on this strip of land. At each end, there was a sign...
"End."
Monday we "end" this portion of our trip and begin the next.
It's not THE END or a DEAD END, just END. We have our memories
(well, some of them) and photos. I like a saying: "We take photos
as a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone." I know I will
return to Juneau often! We fly to Anchorage and drive to Seward.
Looking forward to the adventures await!
